Shady Side Rural Heritage Society Receives Major IMLS Grant |
| |
On July 18, the Institute of Museum and Library
Services announced its "Museums For America" grants, including a major grant to
the Captain Salem Avery House Museum and the Shady Side Rural Heritage Society,
for a project to research and document the story of the National Masonic Fishing
and Country Club, which owned the house from the 1920s until its sale in 1989 to
SSRHS. The club of mostly Jewish Masons from Washington, D.C. spent weekends and summers at the house,
which was called "Our Place." The project will include research, an exhibition,
and an interpretive brochure describing the club's founding members.
Congratulations to our colleagues at SSRHS!
